How to make your own Advent wreath 🎂
This is what you need:
- 1 straw wreath or floral foam ring
- fir green (e.g. Nordmann fir or pine)
- Other green shrubs (e.g. eucalyptus)
- 4 candles with candle holders
- binding wire
- Decoration of your choice (e.g. cones, berries, cinnamon sticks)
- garden shears
- wire cutters
And here's how it works:
-
Preparation
- Prepare all materials
- Sort the fir green into branches of approximately equal size
-
create a base
- Use the straw wreath as a basis
- Attach the first fir branches to the wreath with binding wire
- Wrap the wire tightly around the wreath several times
-
attaching fir branches
- Lay the branches overlapping in one direction
- Work shift by shift
- Fix every 2-3 branches with wire
- Make sure there are no bald spots visible
-
attaching candle holders
- Mark four equal distances
- Attach the candle holders with wire
- Make sure they are tight and straight
-
decoration
- Attach larger decorative elements (such as cones) with wire
- Distribute smaller decorations (such as berries) evenly
- Fix everything well with wire
-
fine-tuning
- Check that everything is secure
- Carefully cut off any protruding branches
- Insert the candles
Tips:
- Always work in the same direction
- The closer you place the branches, the fuller the wreath will be
- Dip the candles briefly in lukewarm water beforehand - this way they will drip less later
- Keep the wreath cool to make it last longer
Safety note: Never leave burning candles unattended and make sure there is enough distance between the candles and the fir branches.
