🥖 Ingredients for a large Easter braid:
- 500 g flour
- 1 packet of dry yeast (or ½ cube of fresh yeast)
- 250 ml lukewarm milk 🥛
- 50 g sugar
- 1 pinch of salt
- 80 g soft butter 🧈
- 1 egg 🥚
- 100 g raisins (soaked in rum if desired)
- 50 g sliced almonds 🌰
- 1 egg yolk + 2 tablespoons milk for brushing
👩🍳 How to make your Easter braid:
1️⃣ Prepare the dough : Mix the flour, sugar and salt in a bowl. Dissolve the yeast in the lukewarm milk and add it to the flour with the butter and egg. Knead everything into a smooth dough.
2️⃣ Add raisins & almonds : Carefully work the raisins and sliced almonds into the dough.
3️⃣ Let the dough rise : Cover the dough and let it rest in a warm place for about 1 hour until it has visibly increased in size.
4️⃣ Braiding : Divide the dough into three equal strands, form into rolls and loosely braid into a plait.
5️⃣ Brush and let rest : Place the Easter braid on a baking tray, cover with a cloth and let it rise for another 20 minutes. Then brush with the egg yolk and milk mixture.
6️⃣ Baking : Bake in a preheated oven at 180°C (top/bottom heat) for about 25-30 minutes until golden brown.
7️⃣ Enjoy : Let the fragrant plait cool down a little and dust with powdered sugar or enjoy with honey! 🍯
